Why Is My Progress Slower?

One of the most frustrating parts of losing weight with PCOS is comparing yourself to others and realizing you aren’t seeing the same types of results as they are.

Your friend might effortlessly lose 30 pounds while you struggle to lose just 5 pounds.

I’ve talked to women that try a workout and diet program with their friends that don’t have PCOS.

Often times, these women with PCOS become discouraged because they think they are doing something wrong.

I don’t want you to be discouraged! There are reasons why you aren’t seeing the results at a faster rate. Allow me to explain.

Increased Appetite

Women with PCOS commonly struggle with increased appetite and constant cravings.

You see, in our bodies there is a hormone called leptin. This hormone’s purpose is to send signals to your brain that you are full. Women with PCOS often struggle with leptin resistance.

This simply means that your body has a hard time knowing when it is full because the communication between your stomach and your brain is hindered.

So you often feel hungry because your appetite is bigger.

Difficulty Burning Fat

Another reason why you aren’t seeing results is because women with PCOS have difficulty burning fat.

The human body burns fat by bringing fat molecules into the cells. From there, the fat has to be moved to the mitochondria. Once the fat is in the mitochondria, it is broken down and the fat is converted to energy.

But if you have PCOS, your body has a difficult time burning fat. Fat is moved into cells, but it isn’t moved into the mitochondria because of a carnitine deficiency.

So your body isn’t burning fat and using it as a fuel source. This is also why women with PCOS feel fatigue.

Here is an analogy that will make it easier to understand. Think of your body as a house. Inside the house, there is a fireplace . You bring wood into your house, but the wood never gets put into the fireplace.

That’s what happens to women with PCOS. You need carnitine to bring your fat cells into your mitochondria so that fat isn’t continually stored.

Slow Metabolism

Everyone’s metabolism is different. When you lose weight, your metabolism slows down.

With PCOS your metabolism is going to be slower. If you have insulin resistance as well, your metabolism will be even slower.

So we need to do things to help you increase your metabolism.

Bringing your fat cells to your mitochondria will help increase your metabolism.

I want to help you see the results that you want to see.
