Here in part two of the strengthening your willpower series we talk about your heart rate variability (HRV).
A higher HRV improves your willpower. Here are the ways to improve your HRV.
- Get 7 to 9 hours of sleep at night. HRV is associated with your stress response. Without getting enough sleep, it increases your stress and subsequently makes your HRV worse.
- Eat a healthy diet. The lack of a poor diet decreases the stress on our bodies because our bodies don’t need to figure out what to do with the extra junk in the food.
- Decrease stress. Remove the unneeded extra stress in our lives by de-cluttering, eliminate unneeded tasks, etc.
- This will improve HRV all by itself.
- Improve attitude. Your perception of any situation can and will affect your willpower. If everything is negative, your willpower will be low. But if you can look at things as a positive this will increase your willpower and improve your HRV.
- Eliminate the temptation. If the temptation isn’t close by, you will have a harder time giving into it.
